Description

Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate Injection is a potent synthetic corticosteroid with strong anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and immunosuppressive properties. It is used where rapid steroid action is required to control inflammation, allergic reactions and immune-mediated conditions.

Mechanism of Action (MOA)

1. Enters cells and binds to glucocorticoid receptors
2. Modifies gene transcription
3. ↓ Production of inflammatory mediators:

• Prostaglandins
• Leukotrienes
• Cytokines

1. Stabilizes inflammatory cell membranes
2. ↓ Migration of immune cells

Final effect:

✔ Suppresses excessive immune activity

Side Effects

Long term / high dose:

• Hyperglycemia
• Weight gain
• Increased BP
• Reduced immunity
• Delayed wound healing
• Osteoporosis
• Cushingoid features

Precautions

⚠ Use carefully in:

• Diabetes patients
• Hypertension
• Active infections
• Peptic ulcer
• Kidney disease
• Osteoporosis

Avoid sudden withdrawal after prolonged therapy.

May mask signs of infection.
